CHARMAN
Many companies are named after their founder, however the name Charman comes from James Thomas Charman, the founder’s grandfather.
Due to societal idiosyncrasies and tradition, the name Charman was due to be lost from the family as James had no male children to pass on the name.
Meanwhile, part of the reason the company was founded was to break the mould and deliver a better way of adding value for his clients, as well as changing the way people think about Structural Engineering. Using Charman in the name is a nod to this, going against tradition and trying to give back to others rather than promote oneself.
INTEGRATED
The team at Charman Integrated Design believe that the key to success on any project is exceptional teamwork and understanding. The best results come from a clear purpose and a team working together to achieve a shared goal.
We aim to be part of the full design team, from client to consultant to contractor, to ensure that we collaborate together in order to achieve the best work we can. Communication is key and we pride ourselves on clear, concise communication with all those involved in a project.
DESIGN
Good structural engineering is good design. It is creative and it can be expressive. Structural engineering is not simply sizing a beam to suit a set of loadings, it is understanding the client’s aspirations and constraints, liaising with the design team to find compromise and clarity. The goal is to reach an elegant and simple solution to a complex problem.
Afterall, the word engineer originated from 'ingenium' which is a Latin word meaning 'ingenius' which in turn means 'someone who solves problems that elude normal persons'.
